Meet Sharon Muza
I have received doula training from Seattle Midwifery School, and completed my childbirth education training there as well. I am an instructor at Bastyr University at the Simkin Center and have been teaching the Birth Doula Skills Workshop since July 2006. I have trained well over 1000 birth doulas. As a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, I teach childbirth education, including Labor YOUR Way, Lamaze Birth & Baby YOUR Way, (a seven week series), VBAC YOUR Way, Cesarean YOUR Way and customized private classes.
I am very active in the birth community and participate in many birth related organizations. I served for many years, on the board of REACHE and am past Board President, (Regional Association of Childbirth Educators of Puget Sound) and served four years on the Board of Directors of PALS Doulas. I am a former co-leader of the Seattle ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) Chapter.
I participate and present at advanced doula trainings, international birth and childbirth education conferences, and local birth groups so that I can continue to remain up to date on current birth practices and evidence-based research that will support my doula and childbirth education clients. I am the community manager for Lamaze International’s Science & Sensibility blog and the blog manager for the DONA Doula Chronicles, the professional blog for DONA International.
You can learn more about my continuing education and ongoing activities on my training page.
My hope as a doula and childbirth educator is to give people a starting point for learning about the power and process of birth and the ability to advocate for themselves before, during and after the birth process. I provide emotional, physical and informational support throughout your pregnancy, while you birth and in the postpartum period.
On a personal note, I am the mom to two fantastic daughters and live in Ballard, with my family, and a lovely golden retriever named Katie!
Please contact me by email or phone, 206.465.1052, so that we may discuss having a doula at your birth, my current class offerings or how I can help you customize a birth education program for your schedule and needs.
