Lactation YOUR Way: Breast/Chestfeeding Your Newborn

A virtual live childbirth class with expert childbirth educator sharon muza

virtual private custom childbirth class

Many new parents find that breast/chestfeeding their babies is the next big challenge after giving birth. As a doula and childbirth educator for almost two decades, I have prepared and supported thousands of families through the highs and lows of bodyfeeding, especially in the early days after birth. In my Lactation YOUR Way class, I share what you can do during pregnancy to prepare for lactation, how to get feeding off to the best start and what to do when challenges arise and who you can contact for help you when you are in the thick of it.

Our time together will be bias-free, welcoming to all families, evidence-based and information will be delivered in a format that will be easy to recall once baby arrives, when you need it most. This may be weeks or months after class. You can expect fun, engaging activities, a bit of humor, and lots of practical information to help you meet your feeding goals.

Recommended by Seattle area doctors, doulas and midwives for all birthing families because of how confident people feel after participating.

Is this class a good fit for you?

You want evidence-based information and best practice focused on newborn feeding.

You are feeling concerned or anxious about breastfeeding / chestfeeding and want some solid support and information in advance.

You had a challenging previous feeding experience and want things to go differently this time with this next baby.

You want fun and active learning delivered, without judgment, in a format that helps you remember the important info once your baby has arrived!

A solid foundation for feeding your baby:

  • Learn solid steps to take immediately after birth (whether a cesarean or vaginal birth) to set up a successful bodyfeeding relationship.

  • Practice different feeding positions and learn how to initiate (and recognize) a good latch with your newborn, so that your baby is able to successfully transfer milk.

  • Learn how to know if your baby is getting enough milk after each feed and over time, and what to do if they are not.

  • Receive best practice tips to establish and maintain a good milk supply

  • Recognize common feeding hurdles and have a plan of action, just in case it is needed.

  • Support people and partners will understand how key their role is in supporting the nursing parent/baby dyad and how to bond with their baby in the early days.

  • A useful online resource list and contact information for professional lactation support if you need it after birth.
